Danvers Select Board announces Jill Cahill as new Town Manager

The Select Board unanimously voted for Jill Cahill as the towns new Town Manager.

The two remaining finalists out of an original field of 31 were Jill Cahill, who has served three years as Gloucester’s chief administrative officer and Sean Fitzgerald, who served seven years as the Swampscott’s town administrator.

Selectperson David Mills opened last night’s discussions by saying Danvers is fortunate to have a town that can attract people of this quality and recommended Cahill for the post.

Selectperson Dutroche Djoko said both candidates had shown a “dedicated and strong commitment to Danvers.” He said he was leaning toward Cahill, but he would still like to hear what other people had to say.

Selectperson Michael Bean said the nominating committee had undergone a long and arduous process starting out at 31 candidates and working down to five. He said he had no doubt that Cahill was the right choice Selectperson Maureen Bernard said that first then the nominated board picked all 31 candidates and said she would be nominating Cahill as the next town manager “pending contract negotiation.”

Select Board Chairman Dan Bennett commented on what a long progress it had been to interview all the candidates, then narrowing it down from 31 to 11, then seven, then five and then 3 to bring before the board for interviews.

Drawing from some of the comments from Gloucester residents about Cahill, Bennet read “She has the faith and respect of everyone that works for the city.”

“She does a great job of balancing interests, listening to people and trying to build bridges.”

“In this role, it was her ability to build relationships and actively listen to everyone with respect.”

“That’s a common theme in these comments,” Bennett said, “and I think that at the end of the day, that’s why I chose Jill Cahill to be our next town manager.”

Maureen Bernard said she believes that “Jill Cahill will take Danvers to the next level, which is what we need.”

Bennett then called for a vote — which passed unanimously. He then moved that they appoint Cahill as town manager, subject to contract negotiations and a further background check.

He asked for Djoko to work with him on the contract as they go forwards. Bennett said after the background next, the city would work with legal counsel and “hopefully get this done in a month.”

Write Postcards for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Election – March 18

DanversDems invites you to join a postcard party on Tuesday March 18th at 6 pm at the Danvers Peabody Institute Library Classroom in support of the Wisconsin Supreme Court Judicial Election.

Swing Left NorthShore/Cape Ann is sponsoring this project to ensure that Wisconsin keeps its liberal majority by electing Judge Susan Crawford on April 1, 2025.  Ms. Crawford has a tough fight against Musk-supported Brad Schimel, past R Gov. Scott Walker’s AG who implemented Walker’s anti-democratic, anti-union, anti-choice agenda.

We have 100 postcards to complete.  This project will not require a huge time commitment as each card requires two simple sentences and a greeting but we’d love to see you and have the opportunity to feel like we are doing something!  Can’t make it?  Do NOT WORRY there will be MORE postcarding opportunities!

Please email your RSVP to Liz Brennan at liz.conrad98@gmail.com

POSTCARDS TO WHITE HOUSE MAIL ON MARCH 15TH

POSTCARDS TO WHITE HOUSE MAIL ON MARCH 15TH.

You can cut up any card to use up to 4″x 6″ but no bigger.

On March 15th, many people will mail Donald Trump a postcard that publicly expresses our opposition to him. And we, in vast numbers, from all corners of the world, will overwhelm the man with his unpopularity and failure. We will show the media and the politicians what standing with him — and against us — means. And most importantly, we will bury the White House post office in pink slips, all informing Donnie that he’s fired.

Each of us — every protester from every march, each congress calling citizen, every boycotter, volunteer, donor, and petition signer — if each of us writes even a single postcard and we put them all in the mail on the same day, March 15th, well: you do the math.

No alternative fact or Russian translation will explain away our record-breaking, officially-verifiable, warehouse-filling flood of fury. Hank Aaron currently holds the record for fan mail, having received 900,000 pieces in a year. We’re setting a new record: over a million pieces in a day, with not a single nice thing to say.

So sharpen your wit, unsheathe your writing implements, and see if your sincerest ill-wishes can pierce Donald’s famously thin skin.

Prepare for March 15th, 2025, a day hereafter to be known as #TheIdesOfTrump

Write one postcard. Write a dozen! Take a picture and post it on social media tagged with #TheIdesOfTrump ! Spread the word! Everyone on Earth should let Donnie know how he’s doing. They can’t build a wall high enough to stop the mail.

Then, on March 15th, mail your messages to:

President (for now) Donald J. Trump

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW

Washington, DC 20500

It might just be enough to make him crack.
