Grassroots Biden Write In Effort Delivers Big Win for Joe in NH

President Biden’s name wasn’t on the New Hampshire primary ballot Tuesday, but his supporters covered the polling places to deliver a big write-in victory for him.

The Associated Press projected Biden as the winner just after the last polls closed. With 92 percent of the precincts reporting, Biden had 66.4 % of the vote, Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips had 19.7 % and Marianne Williamson had 4.0%. The remaining 10% were spread over an array of 20+ other names appearing on the ballot. (My favorites were Paperboy Love Prince and President R. Boddie.)

“Despite President Biden’s absence from the ballot, Granite Staters still turned out in robust numbers to show their support for the great work that the Biden-Harris Administration has done to grow the economy, protect reproductive freedoms, and defend our democracy,” Ray Buckley, chair of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, said in a statement. He thanked “the hundreds of grassroots organizers who successfully coordinated an historic write-in campaign.”

Marilyn Hazel held signs in Nashua at Sterling Elementary school and I (Lou Bernazzani) filled in for non covered shifts in Portsmouth at the Dondero Elementary School in the morning and at The Senior Activity Center in the afternoon. Voting was brisk at both locations during the day. The Dondero School is in Ward 4 which is the most Republican ward within a Democratic city. Quite a few folks checked in to make sure they knew how to write in Joe Biden and all Dems went out of their way to give us a wave of encouragement.

DDTC Meeting – January 30

The January meeting was held on January 30 as a hybrid meeting in the Gordon Room at the George Peabody Library in Danvers.

Danielle Allen, Harvard Professor of Ethics and Public policy and a former candidate for Governor, joined us via Zoom. Danielle is the founder of Partners In Democracy https://partnersindemocracy.us/. Danielle introduced and provided information for a proposal sponsored by herself, Steve Grossman and Nicole LaChappelle for the creation of a MassDems Commission on Healthy Democracy. Following the presentation, there was good discussion on the proposal and its goals. A copy of the proposal is attached below.

There was a motion to support Dr. Allen’s requests. The committee voted to support the motion without any disapproval.

There was discussion whether the committee should consider raising the dues from $15 to $20. The decision was to leave the dues at $15. Dues are annual and voluntary.

Scheduling meetings at the library on the 4th Thursday has proven difficult due to the busy library calendar. Thus the next meetings will not be on Thursday.

Next meeting will be on Wednesday February 28. This will be a caucus to nominate delegates to the convention. People to have a desire to be a delegate must attend in person. Undetermined if this will be a hybrid meeting but leaning toward in person only so stay tuned.

The March meeting will on be on Monday, March 25.

There was general discussion on a number of topics. The meeting minutes will be posted on the documents page when issued.

Help Joe Biden in NH

As you know, Joe Biden’s name will not appear on the New Hampshire primary ballot on Election Day in January. Insider party politics aside, the stakes are astronomically high. We must make sure that we re-elect Joe Biden – millions of working families and our democracy depend on it.

We are both New Hampshire primary veterans and have seen through several primary campaigns the impact that the outcome in the Granite State can have on the rest of the election cycle.  That is why it’s so important that Joe Biden has a good showing in this year’s primary.

To do that, many New Hampshire Democrats are building a grassroots effort to write in Joe Biden on primary day.  They are planning programs that will ensure not only that voters know that Joe Biden is the only Democrat who can beat Donald Trump but that they must also write in his name on January 23rd.

Massachusetts Democrats have a long tradition of helping candidates in New Hampshire. We know that a good volunteer base from down here can be a difference maker up there.  So, we’re reaching out to ask you to join us in defending our democracy and set Joe Biden on the path to re-election. Here is how you can help:

  1. Can you help on Election Day,  January 23 in New Hampshire?  We need scores of volunteers to do visibility at polling places and encourage Democratic voters to write in Joe Biden. Sign Up Here
  2.  Sign up to help and we’ll keep you updated on other opportunities between now and January 23rd.  Sign Up Here

We have to stand together as Democrats through this critical election cycle. Let’s start off strong with a win in New Hampshire.

Thank you,

Joe Caiazzo and Nick Clemons

Join Team DNC’s Reach Your People!

Reach Your People is an organizing program around a simple principle: that our supporters are the best advocates with the closest people in their lives.

Every single member of our team will play a role in ensuring the people closest to us know what’s at stake for our families and for our country.

For nearly the past two years, social ambassadors have been sharing content and organizing online, engaging their communities in meaningful conversations and getting out the word on Democratic wins, holding Republicans accountable, and amplifying the wins of the Biden-Harris administration.

In 2022, volunteers shared content that gained more than 25 million impressions and helped sway some key seats in our favor during the midterm elections — helping keep the gap close between Democrats and Republicans in the House, gain a 51-49 advantage in the Senate by flipping Pennsylvania, and pick up Democratic governors’ seats in Arizona, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

Wins like these are proof that when you talk online and share your perspectives, the people connected to you are listening because you are a trusted source to those in your life.

A Successful OctoberFest

Octoberfest was a great evening raising money to support the Danvers Democratic Town Committee High School Scholarship and Democratic Candidates.

Thank you to all for your hard work, great food, exuberance, and financial support.

We had a good turnout, although attendance was a little low as it typically is in non-election years and due to the holiday weekend, but the enthusiasm was certainly there.  As usual, Bea and Gerald’s flower decorations were absolutely beautiful. There was a number of speakers including state officers and candidates. We thank all of them for taking the time to join and inform us. We were delighted to see everyone sitting at the tables, eating, talking, and just plain having a good time. It was definitely a fun night.  Great food (way too much), great speakers, and fun trivia.

We also thank everyone who donated diapers and Rep Sally Kerans for delivering them to the migrant families in the area.

We thank Tom and Carla Meagher for taking the substantial amount of leftover food to the Herrick House in Beverly and the to the new members who contributed with great enthusiasm.

This year we had many sponsors and we am so grateful. A financial accounting is yet to be made.

Thank you all

DDTC Sep 20 Meeting Results Summary

This month’s meeting was held on Wed. Sept. 20 at 7:00 PM in the Gordon Room.  It was a hybrid meeting. (We ironed out the feedback issue from the last meeting and the hybrid meeting progressed pretty smoothly. The meeting was lightly attended due to change of date, schedule conflicts and illness.

Eunice Zeigler – Candidate for Governor’s Council – spoke to the committee via Zoom. Eunice provided an excellent summary of her background and experience, why she was running for Governor’s Council and what she hopes to accomplish. As always, there is a short instruction on what exactly the Governor’s Council does. We thank Eunice for her time and we wish her well in her campaign.

Next topic was for those delegates attending the convention on Saturday. All had the credentials and instructions and are ready to go. Some will be attending the 8:00 AM training sessions. There are 3: Save Our Democracy: Campaigning Across the Country, BlueLocal: How to Organize in Your Communities and ActBlue Training: So you want to run for office?. We will split up and have at least one person at the Save Our Democracy and Blue Local sessions. Gov Healey and Lt. Gov Driscoll are sponsoring a delegate party after the convention. Most plan to attend.

The main portion of our agenda concerned the Octoberfest on OCTOBER 7..  The OctoberFest Invitation has been sent out and there is much increased activity on the DDTC Web Site. Unfortunately Kasey is not feeling well and couldn’t make the meeting so we didn’t have an update on ticket sales but these typically are late anyway. (We hope Kasey feels better soon.) A reminder email will be sent out on October 1 to the same invitation mailing.

As in previous years, the plan is to have home made dishes, deserts and side dishes and then supplement as required with some catering by the club. So, we ask anyone who can to donate a main dish, side dish, or dessert.  Carol McLaughlin and Bea Clark are organizing this.  Please let Carol know by email crimaclau@aol.com. what you can bring by Sept. 29.   Your donations do help our overhead, especially since the Club now charges $600 plus bartender and linen etc. Bea and Jerry are again preparing their beautiful flowers for our decorations.

As it is not an election year, it’s a little more challenging to get speakers. Some have committed and some are still pending. We are still working to get a speaker that fits in with our Save Our Democracy theme. We have a couple that we are following up with. Any thoughts are welcome.

Liz Brennan has volunteered to greet and sign in people at the door and Vinny Malgeri to assist with storing donated diapers (we are asking diaper donations) but we need as much help as we can get before the dinner setting tables, food etc, etc and in the kitchen organizing and clean up. Anyone who can help in these areas will be GREATLY appreciated.

We look forward to seeing everyone.

Thanks
